【郊外】巌流島の決闘像 The Duellists at Ganryu island
おそらく佐々木小次郎が最後に見たであろう宮本武蔵の姿。背景は北九州市門司区です。
He is the legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto seen by Kojiro Sasaki at the end of his life. Background is Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City.
旧百三十銀行ギャラリー Old No.130 Bank Gallery
東京駅や日本銀行本店などを設計した辰野金吾による旧百三十銀行八幡支店が今は市民ギャラリーとして公開されています。
It was built as Yahata Branch of No.130 Bank designed by the famous architect Kingo Tatsuno who also designed Tokyo Station and Nippon Bank.

帝国麦酒として大正２年に建てられ平成１２年にはサッポロビールの醸造棟として幕を閉じた赤煉瓦の建物です。
It was built in 1913 as Empire Beer Brewery and ended up as Sapporo Beer Brewing building in 2000.

東田第一高炉 Higashida No.1 Blast Furnace
最上部には誇らしげに1901と最初に火入された年が刻まれています。今は明治の産業革命の史跡遺産として整備され工場内を見学することができます。
On the top of the tower proudly 1901 is indicated when the blast furnace was ignited. Now it is not operated and was reformed as a historic site of industrial revolution in Meiji era where you can enter inside.

中央のペットボトルの塔に入っているのは人が１日に消費する水を体感させる展示です。その他さまざまな環境に関する興味深い解説がそれを取り囲んでいます。
PET bottles tower in the center displays the amount of water that a person uses in one day averagely. Many other interesting explanations about our environmental issues are displayed around.

小倉城庭園 Kokurajo Garden
江戸時代に建てられた歴史的な建物を北九州市が平成10年に再現して公開されました。小笠原会館とも呼ばれ、美しい日本庭園の池の上に張り出すように建てられています。
Kitakyushu City restored the building in 1998 that was historical house built in Edo-era.
It is called Ogasawara-Kaikan that hangs over the pond with beautiful Japanese garden.

【郊外】青の洞門 Aono-Domon (Blue Tunnel)
禅海和尚が安全な道を作るため資金を集め、石工たちを雇ってノミと槌だけで30年かけて1750年に一期工事を完成させた日本初の有料トンネル。
It is the first toll tunnel that a Buddhist monk Zenkai made up in 1750 for saver traffic to collect donations and to hire masons only with hammers for 30 years.

今はラトリエ・ドゥ・アカレンガという洋菓子店になっていますが、大正７年に建てられた赤煉瓦の倉庫を改装したものだそうです。

初めて牛鍋を九州にもたらした明治創業の老舗料亭。大正時代の歴史ある木造三階建て。
This restaurant brought Kyushu "Gyunabe"(Sukiyaki) for the first time in Meiji era. It was rebuilt as three stories wooden building in 1910s.
